W.J. Morrissey

Location: 30 Mississippi Street, Buffalo NY  (Cobblestone District)

Phone:  716-852-0930

Price: $  12.50

Ambiance: The outside of the restaurant is very inviting.  The restaurant doe s look to be much larger from the outside than it is on the inside, but this is not a problem.   When you enter the decor is very Irish and you can tell that the owned have worked hard to have their theme carry throughout the place.  The wood was beautiful, the bar was inviting and different, there were bistro tables place around the bar area that were very appealing.

We were seated right away and were presented with menu, on the cover of the menu was the story of the restaurant.  They have take every effort to create a authentic Irish Pub and imported the wood and furniture.

Service: Our waitress was very energetic and friendly.  She has only worked there for a few weeks but was quick to tell us that she loved it there.    She also told us since it was restaurant week, we could have our 2 fish fry, two soups and 2 drafts for $20.12.

Food: We had the soup which was served hot and quickly.  I had the New England Clam Chowder, my husband had the Potato Leek soup.  Both soups were very good.  Our fish came out next, and was very hot.  We could not eat it for a few minutes.  It was fresh and crispy, service on a abundance of french fries with a small amount of Coleslaw .  We were disappointed that the traditional side of potato and macaroni salads were not served, nor was the slice of rye bread.

Recommendation: I would recommend WJ Morrissey for a fish fry, it's good, but not a good representation of a Buffalo Fish Fry.

Pino’s – Orchard Park

We were not thrilled with Pino's in Orchard Park.    The food was fine, but the place felt like a cafeteria and was very blue and very BRIGHT!

We rated it as a 3 fin.

We visited this restaurant before we started doing formal ratings with photos, and reviews.

We are adding it on our site because we really wanted to keep a log of all the places we have been in the past 2 years.

Hoaks on the Lake

We were not happy at Hoaks on the Lake.    The night we were there was very nice, we sat out on the balcony, but it was so loud once the music started.  Or Fish as just ok, not bad, but not great either.

Mia’s Restaurant – Orchard Park

My Fish Fry

Location: 4905 South Buffalo Street, Orchard Park NY

Phone: 716-667-2002

Price: $  12.00

Ambiance: The ambiance is different depending on where in the restaurant you are sitting.  I really wanted to be on the covered back porch, but the wait was a bit longer than for inside.  Since it was late and I was really hungry we opted for the inside.  This was a mistake!  We were seated in about 15 minutes but unfortunately we were placed at a table next to the steel door that lead to the crowded porch.  The wait staff exited and entered through this door about every 8 seconds and allowed the door to SLAM each time.  Needless to say, the meal was not RELAXING as it should have been.

Service: Friendly we waiting about 15 minutes for a table at 8pm.  Our waitress was efficient and friendly.  Our food was served quickly.

Food: The fish fry was good.  Not the best I have ever had but clearly acceptable.  The meal was served with Rye Bread, French Fries, Cole slaw and tuna macaroni salad.
